ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters on this book. The book discusses Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) practitioners improve their understanding of the language of business to develop influence and bring about change. It provides the need for a transformation in OSH practice, for OSH professionals to position themselves more effectively in the ever-changing world of business. The book considers the management of an enterprise, providing the OSH practitioner with the essential skills needed to manage risks and opportunities from a holistic perspective. It explores how the concepts can be used as vehicles to promote OSH. The book focuses on the design and implementation of behavioural change programs in consideration of emotional, rational and situational factors. It also considers wider macro-economic issues and the need for the OSH practitioner to be aware of the impact of macro changes on the OSH landscape.
