ABSTRACT

The adult role in supporting youth voice and input is to intervene, encourage, and draw out young people's knowledge and expertise by building on what they already know. The most significant example of youth voice in the project seems to be evidenced by Central Youth United's (CYU) final presentation and how the student researchers experienced this culminating event. At this event, the youth research team presents their participatory action research (PAR) project's final report, with its findings and recommendations for meeting the needs of young people in Central. The Central Youth Task Force was so impressed with the CYU team's presentation, and enthusiastic about their research-based recommendations from their PAR project, that within moments after the CYU presentation, the Task Force called an impromptu meeting on site. They gathered the student researchers and invited them to join the task force in order to participate on this decision-making body and contribute their ideas and vision for the next steps.
