ABSTRACT

The Cognitive Behavioral Analysis System of Psychotherapy (CBASP) is the only psychotherapy model developed specifically for chronic depression. CBASP is designed to address the problems of the patient in a step-by-step manner. CBASP is essential reading for novice and experienced Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) therapists, counselors, and psychotherapists treating chronic depression. JPM asked the patient to draw a sociogram representing the six family members to reveal the interactional structure of her family. JPM met with Jamie and she was extremely bright, highly articulate, a skilled soccer player and a very distraught adolescent. Interpersonally, she was detached and withdrawn, passive-compliant, and stand-offish as measured by the Impact Message Inventory (IMI) scale. Two recent suicidal attempts left the clinician nervous and concerned about the potential dangers of suicide. She also presented with gastrointestinal reflux symptoms. It took several months before the parents purchased appropriate medication.
