ABSTRACT

This chapter presents an illustrative selection of project examples. It aims to use project examples that can be broadly grouped under two categories, those that were delivered to budget and those that ran significantly over and became publicly associated with difficulty in delivery. The chapter describes few projects have solely 'positive attributes' and few are completely dominated by 'tough challenges'. It considers the projects to illustrate positive attributes to deliver success. Some of the positive attributes are: Channel Tunnel Rail Link (CTRL) project; London 2012 Olympic Park; Heathrow Terminal 5; Millennium Bridge, London; Glaxo Research Campus, Stevenage. The chapter examines the category of 'tough challenges'. Some of the tough challenges includes are as follows: West Coast Mainline upgrade; Channel Tunnel connecting UK to France; British Navy Astute Class Submarine Programme; Jubilee Line Extension, London Underground; New Scottish Parliament, Edinburgh; Wembley Stadium, London; Schoenefeld Berlin Brandenburg Airport, Germany.
