ABSTRACT

This chapter looks at recent developments in Reggio Emilia and the UK. Many early years settings in the UK have taken their inspiration from their experiences in Reggio Emilia. Those who have been successful are committed to the principles of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), while drawing the inspiration from the Reggio Approach. Many people have been inspired by the work of the preschools and infant-toddler centres of Reggio Emilia, and have used this experience in different ways, to reflect on and examine their own practice. In the southern hemisphere, the Reggio Emilia Australia Information Exchange (REAIE) links with Australia and New Zealand and publishes a quarterly journal. The UK reference point for Reggio Children is the Sightlines Initiative based in Newcastle. The chapter concludes by summarising the key messages from the work of the preschools and infant-toddler centres which may help to guide our future thinking about early childhood and beyond.
