ABSTRACT
Part of the mandate 1to1 set itself is to make today's knowledge of space, structure and policy more accessible to and useable by all stakeholders government bodies, non-governmental organization (NGO) and other civil society members, as well as the private sector engaged in urban upgrading. 1to1 facilitated the student engagement and is collaborating with the organisers on the project's development strategy. Mohau Melani has been actively involved with Slovo Park Community Development Forum (SPCDF) activities for over a decade as part of his social development of informal settlements. For Federation of the Urban Poor (FEDUP) for whom Jhono Bennett worked for a year 1to1 provides design support, internships and links to mentors and other development partners. The 1to1 group cut its teeth as University of Pretoria students with the Slovo Park project a scheme devised to open eyes to the reality of South Africa's urban poor.
