ABSTRACT

This chapter presents some client stories and transcripts to outline each piece of a follow-up session, and provides an update on what happened in the three follow-up sessions with April. The chapter outlines two case examples one of a lesbian couple, Natasha and Latoya, and another with an individual gay male Richard. Often the individual, couple, or family is able to easily answer about any sign of progress with things that they have noticed since the last meeting. Once the progress that's been made towards the client's preferred future has been fleshed out, the Solution-Focused (SF) therapist might go back to the scaling to identify current placement and then talk about the next small steps forward. Once after identified what's been better, outlined specifically how the client has achieved that progress, and talked with the client about how they would notice continued forward movement towards their preferred future, clinician get back to the feedback and closing piece of the session.
