ABSTRACT

In this fi lm directed by William Nigh, the Stockmans attempt to fl ee to Manila, 600 miles away, but are attacked by Japanese troops. American and Philippine soldiers save them. Jan is wounded and a Philippine soldier comes down with malaria and later kills himself for lack of medicine. At an army post on which they have taken shelter, Royce meets Dr. Michael. The post comes under continuous and unrelenting Japanese bombardment. Royce asks “Is it always like this?” and is told, “Sometimes, it’s worse.”
