ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. 'Inspiring students' is a mantra for all teachers of all subjects. This is because we all know that, regardless of age, subject and environment, an inspired student will not only make rapid progress in terms of achievement and attainment, but they will also enjoy doing so. The student of today grows up with information and communication technology (ICT) at their fingertips. Teachers of all subjects have noticed the impact that mobile computing is having on their subject. Some schools have attempted to stop this infusion of mobile technology. They have banned all electronic devices from the school - continuing to teach and run learning with a deficit of technology: interactive whiteboards are eschewed, wi-fi logins are refused, Kindles are frowned on and an artificial late-twentieth-century learning environment is imposed.
