ABSTRACT

Blended learning is term used to refer to a teacher blending online learning opportunities with physical learning opportunities in the classroom or on the sports field. The notion of blended learning has been around for some time, and it is beginning to have an impact on a range of teaching strategies. It is not dissimilar to setting homework to reinforce the learning going on in the lesson. In simple terms, in a flipped classroom the learning takes place outside the formal teaching environment, and the critical reflection and assessment takes place in the physical lesson. The notion of the learning community has thus been bolstered by the capacity of information and communication technology (ICT) to facilitate a community on a regular basis, and the inspirational teacher should be thinking about designing activities to enhance the notion of the learning community.
