ABSTRACT

A long-term issue for teachers has been the management, tracking and general assessment of student-created work - especially for assessment. Traditionally, this work can be called things like 'coursework' or 'controlled assessment' and be held in folders or sent to examiners for moderation. Some schools are responding to some of the modern changes to qualifications by reappraising their approaches to the management of such work and by using ICT to both inspire the student and to help teachers track the students' work and learning more effectively using eportfolios - best described as online interactive storage of a student's work and learning. The development of online learning is a natural response to the vast amount of work being done by schools and colleges with virtual learning environments (VLEs). The online VLE linked to good eportfolio space means that student continues work on their entire portfolio without having to be physically in the school or taking up a teacher's time or supervision.
