ABSTRACT

In Chapter 1, I discussed the benefits and potential risks that restorative justice (RJ) may imply for victims of crime, identifying some gaps in information and critical issues that we would need to address in order to understand victims’ experiences in RJ better. In order words, I have tried to understand what RJ is and what it may mean for victims. However, at this point I cannot offer a complete answer to the question ‘To what extent may RJ restore the harm caused?’ because first we need to understand what ‘harm’ and ‘restoration’ are, from the victims’ point of view.
