Agricultural Development in Tanzania 1961-82: Performance and Major Constraints

In this paper we will focus on the role and development of the agricultural sector in Tanzania. The first part discusses the expected role of the agricultural sector in the Tanzanian economy, policywise. It also briefly reviews the actual role played by the sector since independence against the expected role. The second part of the paper reviews and evaluates the performance of the sector over the same period. The third identifies the major constraints to the development of the sector.
