ABSTRACT

Particles are indeclinable words which impart additional semantic nuances to other words, word groups or whole clauses. They are mainly a feature of the spoken language, where they are used to introduce additional information, to express a variety of subjective attitudes or assessments, to make justification for statements, to appeal for agreement, to add emphasis, to indicate possibility etc. Particles imbue individual speech with emotive colour and expressive spontaneity.
