ABSTRACT
There is a vast range of modern materials available to the engineering designer, who faces a formidable task when selecting the most suitable material for a particular component to perform a specific function, as there are so many different factors that might influence his choice. These factors include the design requirements, mass, loading, service life, climatic and chemical environment, reliability, machining requirements, manufacturing processes, properties of materials, and considerations of cost, quantity required, etc.
