ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. This book has used a number of images and symbols of Japan to help us understand Japan more widely. It has taken examples of stories that are presented in the news, how Japan is portrayed in movies and the diverse forms of Japan's exports, and by treating them as 'symbols' use them as the basis on which aspects of Japan, its society and culture can be explored, discussed and studied. While learning the vocabulary related to the tea ceremony and learning the tea ceremony will help you learn something of the language and culture, if this is not the sort of activity that is going to keep your motivation for learning about Japan and its language fired up, then perhaps it is not what you should be focusing upon.
