ABSTRACT
Assessment is a fundamental element of the teaching and learning process and an area of
regular debate within education and society alike. Assessment plays an extremely important
role in education and, when used effectively, helps to support learning and raise attainment,
capturing useful feedback to help teachers improve teaching. As new citizenship teachers,
it will be important for you to grasp the different approaches to assessment early in your
teaching practice and to experiment with a variety of techniques.
