ABSTRACT

In the previous chapters, we have touched on the kind of policy ideas that some philosophers have put forward in their key principles, such as Rawls’ duty of assistance, Beitz’s global distributive principle and Pogge’s global resources dividend. These concepts are presented in the first instance as normative principles that arise out of, and can be justified by, those initial philosophical arguments that articulate our duties to distant others. In addition to arising from their philosophical foundations, they also represent ideas about the best way to go about addressing the injustice and poverty that exists across the world.
