ABSTRACT

A defi ning feature of the assessment center (AC) method is the observation of overt behavior as assessees participate in simulation exercises. Each simulation exercise represents some important aspect of the job for which participants are being considered or trained. Simulation exercises present complex stimuli and call for complex behavioral responses. Assessors observe behavioral responses to these complex stimuli, classify these behaviors according to the focal constructs assessed, and make ratings of the assessees’ profi ciency on the focal constructs based on this behavioral information.
