ABSTRACT

The theoretical analysis of cooperative education has been dealt with extensively in the disciplines other than economics particularly in psychology and education. The practitioners of cooperative education are well aware of the labour-intensive nature of the programme, which can cause a considerable financial burden to whoever runs it. In order to convince the bearer of the programme, be it the university administration, the government, or students, that such a programme is worthwhile; it needs to prove its cost-effectiveness. The quantitative investigations to follow need to answer the following questions that, what influences the decision to undertake cooperative education programme, does cooperative education have an effect on academic performance, and does cooperative education have an effect on employment outcome. Several quantitative methods will be employed to answer these questions. These methods can be categorized into two groups, a statistical testing and a multiple regression analysis. However, a more statistically rigorous investigation could have provided more convincing arguments.
