ABSTRACT

In 1938 when the Americanist Stig Ryden passed through the Atacama Desert (northern Chile) on his way to Bolivia, he stayed for one wee!. at the Loa River, surveying various places of archaeological importance. Possibly due to the fact that Ryden (1944) was guided by a person who knew the place well, he found two interesting rock art sites at Taira where images of the South American camelid predominated. 1 Half a century after the discovery, the Taira style has been found in a broad area of the Loa River and its tributaries.
