ABSTRACT

Dominance is expressed geopolitically as the imposition on the whole of the territory of the dominant state of the characteristics of the core state. The geopolitical model of the dominant state is a dynamic spatial one consisting of three stages from the origins of the state to its achievement of a dominant position. In Stage 1 the original core is located at the junction of the parent culture with the other culture. Stage 2 is reached when the core state swings around to reorient itself back into the territory of its parent culture. Stage 3 is reached when a position of dominance has been attained. It involves the assumption of control over most of the territory of the parent culture and the unification of this with a large part of the former territory of culture into an overall political framework.
