ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses some of the issues and clearly explains the main policies and legislation that are associated with lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) diversity in the early years. It focuses on the history of legislation that has affected gay men and lesbians. Now that people have looked at the Equality Act 2010, it should be clear that if a same-sex parent was refused these rights, then they could make a case under Families Act 2014, as it would be direct discrimination. It is worth noting that being transgender is still classified as a mental illness by the World Health Organisation. The Sexual Offences Act 2000 became law in January 2001 in the United Kingdom and equalised the age of consent. The provision is better than good because it consistently achieves very high standards across all aspects of its work with exceptional educational programmes for children of all ages.
