C on the opposite side of the cloister, and it is matter for congratulation and gratitude that the owners of the new building on the Glasshouse Yard site have, in consultation with the Medical College and the Governors of Charterhouse, made provision for its permanent preservation in a worthy setting. For while on the west the outer sides of the doorways are exposed here the inside can be seen, and with it the arrangement of the servicehatch by which food was passed to the monk by the lay-brother, neither see­ ing the other (Plates 78, 80). It is unlikely now that further archaeological discoveries remain to be made at Charterhouse.
