ABSTRACT
The social sciences and the humanities have been generally slow in accepting and putting to profit some of the advances in technique that have been de veloped by other disciplines. This is increasingly true in recent years when radical changes in the natural sciences and mathematics have resulted in whole new fields of study which are unknown to most humanists and have increased the distance and lack of communication between both.
