ABSTRACT

Recently, there has been a flurry of articles concerning a scientific archaeology (Binford, 1962,1968; Caldwell, 1966; Carneiro, 1970; Deetz, 1967; Fritz and Plog, 1970; Longacre, 1968). Much of this discussion is at odds with recent developments (1) in the history and logic of science, and (2) in anthropological cross-cultural studies.
