ABSTRACT

Anchor charts and minilessons are the key to good teaching during Guided Writing. Minilessons and anchor charts are the explicit teaching that happen to make the writing process work in the classroom. Minilessons and anchor charts are all about the gradual release of responsibility model. They can cover any and all of the standards for writing. To create great anchor charts, one need chart or butcher paper and a marker. Teaching writing is using the teaching tools of anchor charts and minilessons to show students exactly how to write. Teaching writing as a process, not an end product, is what so many teachers are missing. The guided writing and on-demand assessment on rubric includes grammar and mechanics and each aspect of the writing conventions can be broken down into a minilesson and applied in the same manner to student writing.
