ABSTRACT
Mechanics and grammar are both written communication skills that need to be taught in the context of the student's writing, just like elements of each genre need to be taught and applied to student writing. Through Guided Writing, one has to show the students how to take their first attempts and turn them into a polished piece of writing through revision and editing minilessons. Alexa Sandmann created a strategy to make peer revision and editing meaningful and purposeful with students of all ages. If one has the goal of creating independent writers, they have to teach students how to use a peer effectively for both revision and editing. Card strategy can be used for editing conferences. Spelling sense is like Spidey Sense in the Spiderman movies Spiderman just knows when trouble exists in the same way that a writer knows that a word is spelled wrong.
