ABSTRACT

The clinical work discussed in this chapter was undertaken in the neonatal intensive care unit of a London teaching hospital with a large regional catchment area. liaison between the Department of Child Psychiatry and the Department of Paediatrics led to a child psychotherapist becoming attached to the unit. Thus parents and families had access to a psychotherapist, and at the same time a staff group was set up both to feed back relevant information to the staff and to give them support and a forum for discussing their own needs and difficulties.
