ABSTRACT

This chapter explores issues within Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) research. It provides some general pointers, it should be remembered that there is no ‘one size fits all’ solution and the approach taken in any one study will need to be refined to take on board the specific context. A research project designed to explore how CSR affects quality of life within a community needs to be careful not to constrain the research by imposing the researchers’ vision of what is meant by quality of life a vision that may be influenced by their own experiences of life and indeed their professional training and reading. The participant observation phase was used to help inform the next stage of the process which involved interviewing. Care does need to be taken in assuming that all good and worthy research must have a numerical element. It is perfectly possible for an excellent piece of research to have no numbers whatsoever.
