ABSTRACT
We will begin by discussing the function of autobiographical memory and why it is important, leading on to the thorny question of how to study it. The problem here is that, unlike most of the research we have discussed so far, the experimenter typically has no control over the learning situation, which makes it difficult to analyze the processes involved in either the acquisition or forgetting of autobiographical memories.
