ABSTRACT

This chapter provides valuable advice for the performing artist such as an actor, dancer, lighting guru, costumer, or stagehand, on investing, saving, and building a diversified and stable financial portfolio. Another important segment of bonds to consider are municipal bonds, which are securities issued by local governments and their agencies. General Obligation bonds, which are commonly referred to as "GO" bonds, are issued by state or local governments and are secured by the full faith and credit of the issuer. Revenue bonds are issued by a local government or special authorities of that government and rely on charges, tolls, or rents to generate the funds needed for their repayment. Revenue bonds are tied to a specific revenue source. However, the GO bonds are guaranteed by the full faith of the local government or its agency. A key reason to consider including municipal bonds in the portfolio is that they can provide a stream of tax-free income.
