ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on schools and their special educational needs coordinator (SENCos) working with the range of services available locally, including the voluntary sector. It discusses SENCos and their schools by explaining in detail how governors or proprietors involve other bodies, including health and social services, local authority (LA) support services and voluntary organisations, in meeting the needs of pupils with SEN and in supporting families of such pupils. The Local Offer (LO) should provide advice on access to apprenticeships and training opportunities, moving toward adulthood and independent living. It will list mediation services and explain how to deal with complaints or referrals to the special educational needs and disability (SEND) Tribunal. Some Educational Psychological Services (EPSs) may work a patch system, looking after a cluster of schools on a regular basis, or be part of a multi-disciplinary area team under Children's Services.
