ABSTRACT
The goal of this book has been to demonstrate the importance of the geographical element in the study of voting at the 1983 general election in England. This goal has been more than adequately achieved. Demonstration is insufficient, however; what is vital is understanding. Thus this summary seeks both to identify the salient features of the research reported here and to chart a possible route towards their understanding.
