ABSTRACT

This chapter addresses common practices in classroom-based research. We begin with a description of classroom observation techniques and a range of observation schemes. We then present three commonly used introspective measures followed by a discussion of some of the practical and logistical considerations involved in carrying out research in L2 classrooms. Finally, we move on to a description and discussion of methodology in three areas of classroom research, the role of instruction in second language development, action research, and aptitude-treatment interaction research.
