ABSTRACT

The purpose of this book has been to examine the relationship between innovation, regional development and the life sciences. Up to now, much of the book has focused on innovation and the life sciences. I deliberately left the concerted discussion of regional development until this chapter, meaning that it represents a concluding discussion for the whole book. I wrote it this way so that I could focus on the topic of regional development in a standalone chapter, bringing all the research to bear on this particular issue rather than spread it out. Consequently, my intention in this chapter is to focus on the implications for regional development of my findings about the life sciences sector and innovation in the previous chapters. Moreover, rather than write a separate concluding chapter, I thought it best to finish the book here.
