ABSTRACT

This chapter provides an overview of the main findings and draws out implications from the research that contribute to broader discussions of environmental and climate policy integration and to debates about the future of climate and energy policy in the EU. The research contributes to academic discussions on environmental policy integration (EPI) and climate policy integration (CPI), and also to literature analysing the EU's climate and energy policies. With climate policy integration, or 'climate mainstreaming', becoming a strategy in the EU to combat and adapt to climate change, the research presented in the chapter raises interest among policymakers and climate stakeholders. The challenge for stakeholders and policymakers involves breaking past patterns of incremental policy improvement. Catching up on past policy failures is an insufficient step forward when the timeline for achieving policy goals is shortening. The chapter presents some closing thoughts of the key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book.
