ABSTRACT

Most young children enjoy the opportunity to be the centre of attention and show off when they feel secure within a situation and a group of people. Offering them regular opportunities to stand onstage and speak, act, mime, sing or dance allows them to discover, develop and display their natural expressive abilities and enjoy sharing them with an audience, achieving early learning goals in the prime area of personal, social and emotional development. Young children absorb language rapidly and love new, long and special words. Praising a child who is a good leader for their confident speech and correct speed usually ensures that they will work hard to maintain it. The most successful children's performances usually rely on action songs, dances and mime sequences and acted stories set to music. It is often much appreciated by parents and children if certificates and stickers are provided at the end of a performance or an end of term party.
