ABSTRACT

The close social-working relationships often associated with small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) allow some scope for employer and employee needs and wishes to be accommodated through degrees of give and takes, and discusses the forms of negotiation. This chapter discusses the kinds of practices that are associated with reward and recognition in SMEs. The factors seem to influence the reward and recognition practices associated with SMEs understands the ways of influence by the external and then the internal environments. The three of the most influential external forces: regulation, labour market and product market. The internal negotiations, around issues relates to explicit, formal negotiations, such as requesting a pay rise or additional recognition for high performance, but also informal and, possibly, implicit forms of negotiation. The topic of reward and recognition in SMEs explores the aspect of employment relationships and practices in SMEs with broader considerations of power and negotiation.
