ABSTRACT

This introduction present an overview of key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of the book. The book offers those who work with children in educational contexts with a bounty of story mark making/writing ideas, practical learning and teaching strategies, academic information and thinking, and research-informed guidance. It provides the publication of various statistics that have recently appeared in national reports and international study findings linked to standard's in settings schools and the 'achievements' of children and young people. In 2013, the OECD reported that the PISA 2012 results for the UK showed 'no change in performance' in English when compared with the results from PISA 2006 and PISA 2009. The book explores different ways to stimulate emerging story writing, namely through the use of inspired ideas, resources and open-ended stimuli. It finally presents emerging story writing provision in their respective settings / classrooms / schools.
