ABSTRACT

The strength of anti-doping’s systemic governance is premised on policy harmonisation, which has enabled the development of coherent and consistent systemic governance that draws institutions into drug control. The effect is mutually reinforcing systemic governance mechanisms that facilitate institutional interaction for those who take part in the anti-doping network. The system represents ‘all but good governance’, with antidoping needing to resolve the ongoing challenge for sport to redress the imbalance towards institutional self-interest at the expense of individual interests (e.g. athletes and support personnel).
