ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the relationship between parents and their children more specifically the parents concern for their child's education, and empowering families. When children first enter school, a routine for reading at home on a daily basis ought to be established if not already in place. Likewise, a system for completing homework ought to be consistent. Older students, usually with less parental guidance, demonstrate increased academic gains when they regularly study and complete homework. Parents/caregivers can be instrumental in helping children gain a positive outlook toward homework and in providing guidance in developing organizational skills that will last a lifetime. Parents/caregivers continue to influence their children's organization skills in many ways. This Literacy Booster Meeting will help equip parents/caregivers with skills, strategies, and tools they can use to aid students in adapting to the demands of school work as they grow from early learner to middle grade student.
