ABSTRACT

The best measure of performance for your game is far from “technical,” as traditionally understood. Just play your game on your target hardware and see how it runs. This is the “best” method of performance assessment, and not some number on a graph, simply because it’s the same experience that your gamers will have when they actually play the game for real. However, once you finally spot a performance issue, a problem to be solved because it degrades the experience, then it’s time to use diagnostic tools to help identify the source, assuming the source isn’t obvious. The Stats panel can help you do this. The panel can be accessed from the Game tab: just click the Stats button from the Game tab toolbar, and then play your game. 1

To read the Stats panel effectively, some information and background is required on each of the stats or “dimensions of performance.” These are discussed below.
