ABSTRACT
The purpose of the inspection is to obtain information which will be processed into a variety of reports and actions. It is an information-gathering exercise that is part of the overall process; it is not an end in itself. There may be limited opportunities to inspect for a variety of reasons; for example, the unwillingness of the occupier to give access, the inability of the occupier to be at home because of work or other commitments, etc. Repeat inspections to obtain information which should be obtained on a single visit are a waste of resources and a devaluation of the process.
