ABSTRACT

Teachers have a wide variety of student needs and abilities that they need to meet in their classroom on a daily basis. They need tools that provide them with data to inform their instructional practices. One of the most common ways for teachers to discover what their students know or need to know is through formative assessment. Formative assessment, including diagnostic testing, is a range of formal and informal assessment procedures utilized by teachers during the learning process in order to modify teaching and learning activities to improve student achievement. In contrast to summative assessments, which are typically used for external accountability, formative assessments are designed to provide information to teachers quickly to help them meet the needs of students academically.
