ABSTRACT

In the UK, only about 30 per cent of land coming up for sale is greenfi eld, the rest is land that was once or is already occupied. Sometimes it’s easier as far as obtaining planning permission is concerned to fi nd a plot that has already been developed that comes with some land. There are many different ways to fi nd land that is up for sale:

• word of mouth – often farmers just ask around locally before contacting an estate agent;

• the Land-Share website – www.landshare.net; • estate agents; • land agents; • the website woodlands.co.uk; • auctions (usually advertised in the local press – land is often for sale as

a result of bankruptcy so a bargain is possible); • local authorities; • government land.1
