ABSTRACT

You don’t just get ideas from people you know. Look at the person sitting opposite you next time you are on a train. You don’t know this person but you should be able to generate multiple ideas just by looking at them. For example, you might notice that the person is wearing clothes from high street brands but a very expensive watch. You would then ask yourself questions about this, such as why there is the discrepancy between clothes and accessory and how you can tell it is an expensive watch. Or you might ask yourself where this person is going and why. It doesn’t matter whether your guesses are correct or not if they lead you to interesting ideas for articles – the person you are looking at is your temporary muse, but they will never know it and therefore it is the ideas here that matter and not the truth.
