ABSTRACT

The storyteller is the inventor of the narrative and holds all the knowledge about the story. The character that the storyteller is playing was circled during story dictation. Jane Katch, author and fifth-grade teacher in the United States, uses Story Acting to support older children in developing their creative writing. The storyteller should not choose which roles other children take in her story. When a child asks if she can have her friend acting in her story, I tell her that when I do Helicopter Stories author believe it is fairer to invite children to be involved from around the stage; that way everyone gets a turn. A teacher compared Helicopter Stories to the blades of a helicopter spinning around. The author love this idea, and it is a great way to remember this process, but the name actually comes from the title of the first Vivian Gussin Paley book I read, The Boy Who Would Be a Helicopter.
