ABSTRACT
Teachers have a practice of writing in the same way that music or art teachers engage in those arts for their own sake. Consideration of teachers' writing in a mutually supportive group informs the development of their practice as teachers. If the group is a voluntary arrangement, attendance is likely to fluctuate according to health, school meetings, examination pressures. Groups should be able to meet in a fixed meeting room. A school or university can provide the kind of space that works well with access to facilities for refreshments. E-mail is the most common way of communicating information. Some groups use social media and all groups may have access to a secure group section of the National Writing Project UK (NWP UK) website. Two or three hours is a good length of time, depending on the time of day. Time for reading and responding is essential. Group running in a way honours the principles of professional autonomy and partnership.
