ABSTRACT

Geoff, the principal of Crimson High, had been in the role for decades, and he articulated a strong commitment to social justice. For him, being a socially just school meant that the school catered to the needs of all of its students and that it encouraged students to become active citizens in a changing world. The social justice principles of recognition and representation were important to him. As the quote above indicates, Geoff wanted the school to be a place where differences of all kinds were valued and recognised. He sought to ensure that the voices of those marginalised by difference were heard throughout the school via a variety of educational support programs. He was also concerned about issues of redistribution and poverty and wanted to ensure that students were not prevented from attending school.
